On March 8, we here at Mission Viejo Florist will join women and men in over 100 countries world-wide in honoring the efforts and achievements of women to improve the lives of others. Since 1909, we've been doing this, and yet, we don't have a specific gifting tradition for it. In other cultures, they give particular florals or buy every single woman in the family, from the youngest to the oldest, flowers. We think it's time we established our own floral giving tradition for IWD, and that it should start with the colors most associated with the day. Here at Mission Viejo Florist, we're well versed in all of the benefits flowers offer the people who spend time with them. After all, we basically live with fresh blooms and plants, so we can fully attest to how they uplift the mood, soothe the soul and calm the mind. We also believe that it's an important act of self-care to buy yourself flowers from time to time, and if we were doctors, we'd write you a prescription for just that. There are plenty of occasions in which to offer flowers, and many of them are holidays. Of course we love them all, but some of the best we've seen have nothing to do with an actual event or holiday, they have to do with a personally meaningful occasion between the giver and the one who receives the gift. In fact, here at Mission Viejo Florist, these are some of our favorite flower exchanges because they are unique. We love to see what people do for these personal events. We here at Mission Viejo Florist are fully embracing Pantone's pick for Color of the Year 2018, Ultra Violet. The color experts made their announcement after the usual annual meeting with palette professionals from around the world, all of them weighing in on what color might best capture the spirit of the times. They concluded that this rich, intriguing shade was it.
Which is great for us, because we've been working with purple for forever. And we like to see it in floral designs because it always adds a touch of mystery and complexity. Read More about Add A Dash Of Pantone’s Purple To Your Winter Palette »

Valentine's Day, roses, chocolate . . . all of that is really nice, but this year, we're looking ahead to a little something called Galentine's Day, a fictional holiday devoted to celebrating the love between female friends. And it's a long overdue one in our opinion here at Mission Viejo Florist.
The idea came about from a 2010 episode of Parks and Recreation, which had main character Leslie Knope taking all her girls out for a long lunch to celebrate their love for each other and to exchange gifts. At one point Knope declares it "the best day of the year," a sentiment that captured the public's imagination and made Galentine's Day a potential reality for women. One of the best resolutions you can make for yourself at the New Year is to practice a little more self-love for the next 365. We here at Mission Viejo Florist aren't talking about renewing your gym membership or tackling a new diet; instead, we're suggesting you treat yourself to more of whatever makes you happy - spa days, travel, time with friends. We also think you should invest in items for yourself and your home that support health and well being. One of those things, in our humble opinion, is flowers. Flowers have long been known to have healing properties. For centuries they've been used medicinally, and some consider flower essence itself to have profound effects on the mind and body. Today, science tells us that we aren't wrong. A 2008 study showed that hospitalized patients who had flowers or a potted plant in their room actually used less pain medication and had lower blood pressure than those who had rooms without any fresh blooms or plants. Research shows that those who exchange flowers tend to have better relationships with friends and family, which in turn promotes well being.
At Mission Viejo Florist, we maintain a collection of flowers that we think are ideal arrangements for every get well scenario. Read More about How Flowers Can Help Us Heal »
